A major player in online marketing is a company called Hubspot. They describe themselves in the following way,

They are all about attracting clients, so they know a thing or two about blogs.  In How to train your brain to write more concisely, you are given 6 really good tips to help develop your writing technique.  Check out the article here – https://goo.gl/Ow09oI.

Once you have followed a few tips on how to improve your writing you may want help with content. There is no better place to start than with Happy Social, a social media agency with years of experience and knowledge. Check out the website – http://www.happysocial.co.uk/ for more on this talented bunch!

Work, life where is the balance? Part Three

Profile of an African American male running on the beach uid 1454699

Hi there.

If you find yourself thinking about work-life balance, then chances are you don’t have work-life balance. So what is the solution? Well, how long is a piece of string? There is not one solution because we are all different.

This week I thought I would re-visit this important area as last year I wrote about work-life balance in two  articles:

https://wordpress.com/post/pmnoblewrites.wordpress.com/142  Part One

and

https://wordpress.com/post/pmnoblewrites.wordpress.com/149 Part Two.

I tried to make simple suggestions to redress the balance, yet twelve months on, we as a nation still struggle with this issue.

If you don’t believe me, have a look at this article  Work Life Balance  by businessculture.org which seems to be aimed at those who wish to live and work in the UK. It still makes interesting reading. See, – http://businessculture.org/northern-europe/uk-business-culture/ukwork-life-balance/.

You may not have time to read this or any other articles on this subject for that matter. However, I hope that you spare a few moments to stop and reassess where you are and make some changes.

The Mental Health Foundation lays out some helpful ways to recognise and combat stress-related concerns.  See, https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/a-to-z/w/work-life-balance.

If you want some further reading ,the Government has published  its findings in the fourth of its research projects into work-life balance. See, https://goo.gl/pKnR62.

This has been a brief look at a subject matter which deserves more time, so will be re-visited in the future.

Thanks for reading.

Take care

Tricia

Bonjour mes amis!

Hi there!  Hola!   Hallo!   Ciao!

This week I thought I would look at the benefits of learning a new language.

I know there are some who moan and groan about learning a new language because they think that everyone should speak English, but don’t assume that everyone does speak English or actually wants to speak English.

I have always believed that learning new words and phrases when visiting a new country shows respect and helps you to experience the culture more.

Did you know that Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the World, Spanish is second, and English is third with 335 million speakers? See http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0775272.html

So why brush up on your language skills? According to http://www.lingholic.com/ten-amazing-reasons-learn-foreign-language/, some of the benefits are:

  • It improves your brain power
  • It improves your employability
  • It helps you to develop confidence

These are really good reasons for an adult, so what about children? Anita Busby of Gold Medal Tuition recently carried out some research and found that teaching children a foreign language through songs and games from a young age actually helps with their own language skills.  This is backed up in an article in the Telegraph, see  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationopinion/11151726/Children-should-start-learning-languages-at-age-three.html

Now if you don’t want to pay out huge amounts of money, or you just want to learn the basics, here are a few websites to get you started.

https://www.duolingo.com/ – I have been trying to top up my school book French with this site and it is okay if you have some prior knowledge.  It tells you how fluent you are at various stages.

https://www.futurelearn.com/Regular readers of this blog know how much I love Futurelearn courses. I recently started a Spanish course to top up on some prior knowledge I had.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages and https://alison.com/subjects/27/Languages are also good sources of help.

https://lingua.ly/blog/best-foreign-language-to-learn/ have some good articles about why you should learn a language, and of course the site allows you to learn a variety of languages.

With all this help around, there is no excuse for you not to start right away.   So my advice would be..

Fonce!  Ve a por ello!  Tu es!  Fallo! Go for it!

Take care,

Tricia

Business as usual!

Hi there.

Welcome to September!  Well, last week I did a quick rundown of the past year as PM Noble Consultancy Services celebrated two years in business.

So what have I learnt in these first two years ?

I have learnt that it is hard work and if you don’t enjoy what you are doing and you are not passionate about it, then it is even tougher.  If I am honest even with passion, sometimes you wonder if it will all be worth it. Well, this is where having a good support network helps. There is more and more help around and those who have read my blogs before know how much I appreciate my local business centre.

The Lets Go! Business Hub at Enterprise Enfield is your local one-stop-shop for support and advice.  The Hub has hot-desk facilities, access to networking, interaction with other like-minded SMEs and so much more! Check the website – http://www.enterpriseenfield.org/ which tells you everything you need to know including information about taster days. If you drop in on Wednesday 7th or 14th of September 2016, you can see the facilities for yourself!

Here are a few more pointers:

If you are thinking of starting a business, then check out the start-up day at the British Library – http://startups.co.uk/business-owners-invited-british-library-start-up-day/. The British Library has a dedicated business section where you can access networking, workshops and information.

There are online sources of advice and information like the following:

businessadvice.co.uk/

smallbusiness.co.uk/

So if you are thinking about starting a business or are within the first two/years, there is no reason for you to go it alone.
My advice to you SMEs and self-employed folk is to keep going. If you believe that this business is what you are supposed to be doing then:
  • focus on what your long term goals are
  • Surround yourself with positive people
  • remember why you started your business in the first place
  • look back and celebrate how far you have come
I wish you all success.
