Don’t get blog-ged down!

Hello there and welcome to August!

The sun has come out, and gone back in again, and we are all wondering what we should do with our glorious summer!

Well, I don’t know about you, but I will be blogging as usual.

Okay, so you have been reading this one (hopefully) and know that it is a web page. If you are anything like me, you will want to know more about all this blog-stuff!

Since I started writing this blog, I have found out some interesting facts and figures about blogs, which I want to share with you. Who knows, by the end of this, you may well decide to start a blog of your own.

Now, if you have just stumbled upon this page and have no idea what this is, then have a look at a website called blogbasics.com/what-is-a-blog, which gives you the full run down of what a blog is, through to why you should start writing a one – now!

If you want another definition and some history about blogging check out Susan Gunelius on About.comweblogs.about.com/od/startingablog/p/WhatIsABlog.htm.

So once you have read and taken in the history of blogs and if you are not all blogged out, you may want to have a look at an article by The Guardian called ‘The World’s 50 most powerful blogs.’

Now, if I am honest, I have only heard of two on the list and I must once again stress that I cannot vouch for the contents of the individual blogs. The purpose of including this article in the blog is really to show you that blogging is big business.

According to http://www.statista.com › … › Internet › Social Media & User-Generated Content the:

Cumulative total of Tumblr blogs between May 2011 and July 2015 (in millions) – This statistic illustrates Tumblr.com’s cumulative total blogs from May 2011 to July 2015. As of that month, the social networking site had surpassed 246.6 million blog accounts, up from 195.1 million in the previous year.’

One of the most well-known websites for blogs is WordPress, see https://wordpress.com. You can start with a free blog and upgrade for more options.

For more information about WordPress see, https://managewp.com/14-surprising-statistics-about-wordpress-usage.

This week has included a fair amount of reading, and if you remember, last week I was singing the praises of reading good material. Hopefully, you will have found the websites and article informative.

One last word; if you are thinking of starting your own blog, bear in mind that times change quickly, so the format of blogs may change too, so keep an eye out for new versions of the platforms that you intend to use for your blog.

Take care

Tricia
